Summarizing

This journey was interesting in that I learned that I wasn't as computer stupid as I thought I was. Now I can at least carry on a conversation about technology and know a little bit about what is being discussed.

Overdrive, NetLibrary, and Project Gutenburg

I looked at all 3 sites. I was unable to register an account, however. I liked Gutenburg the best, it seemed the easiest to navigate. I can see how this would be convenient to be able to read a book without carrying around the book itself. It is similar to our current E-books which were demonstrated by Lois at a branch meeting a year or so ago.

Podcasts

I viewed a list of podcasts from Maine and found a Bible Church with sermons listed there. I attended a Bible Church myself, so it was neat to see one on the net. The RSS feed is http://www.newhopebible.com/v2

YouTube

I'm familiar with YouTube, my husband sends me funny videos. There is one where people are testing what they think is a water bed, except they fall into the water. The two "full figured" women trying to get back out and laughing was funny. But the funniest one I've seen is "4 idiots" Youtube.com/watch?v=KgIc_BLaV-4 these are 4 people obvious vying for the Darwin awards on motorcycles, skateboards, and bikes. The 4th idiot is the funniest. It is a grandma, holding the leash of a VERY big dog. She throws a treat and the dog takes off after it. You can see the realization on her face that she is still holding the leash just a she literally gets swept off her feet in full horizontal form. I can see how this tool could be helpful in demonstrating library procedure and demonstrating new technology, such as our new self-check up DVD machine.

Web 2.0 Awards List

I went on the Awards List site and looked at Realtravel and Farecast.

Google documents and spreadsheet

I set up an account with Google and explored the site, and created a test document.

Sandbox

I registered on Maryland Libraries Sandbox and added an entry under favorite books.

Wikis

I learned about wikis today. I have looked things up on wikipedia before and found it helpful. I liked Princeton's Booklovers wiki. http://booklovers.pbwiki.com/Princeton%20Public%20Library . I think it could be helpful for group book reviews and for helping me to select a book.

web 2.0 libraries 2.0

I viewed 2 sites.
Away from the "icebergs" http://www.oclc.org/nextspace/002/2.htm
Into a new world of librarianship http://www.oclc.org/nextspace/002/3.htm

Technorati

I viewed 2 sites about Maine lighthouses.
LifeThroughMyEyes http://sfcfam5.livejournal.com/120996.html and
Shadowtime http://shadowtime.org/wordpress/?p=20
It was interesting to hear other stories of Maine.

Tagging

Well, I learned about tagging. I did like the tag site I ran across for travel. It listed a lot sites about cheap airline tickets. Cheap is plastered on my forehead.

Rollyo

I created a Rollyo account and put 3 sites on it that I use for free points that you can cash in for shopping gift cards. The tagword is Shoppingpoints.

Library Thing

I just listed 12 books that I have read (I'm a big 'Murder She Wrote' fan) and discovered 2 new ones that I haven't read yet.

I'm not waving

No, I'm not waving at you...I'm having a hot flash.

my Meez

Meez and an angry belly dancer

I had fun playing with Avatar and created an angry belly dancer for my husband to view on our e-mail. The belly dancer is angry because I'd REALLY like to look like that...oh well, I can dream (my husband will have to do that, too)!

The MEEZ animator was fun, although they didn't have fat animations so it's only semi-close to how I look. Imagine a fluffy animation and you've got me.

I did it!

Tada! I figured out how to get around my problem with Merlin. I went on Merlin, wrote down the library blogs that I was interested in, logged onto Bloglines, typed in the library blogs URL in the search area, and subscribed through it. I now have 10 newsfeeds and 3 library blogs. I don't feel as stupid.

Exercise 9 - library related blogs/newsfeeds

This week I found 10 RSS feeds that looked interesting. I tried to find 3 library related feeds, but something is wrong with the connection. I had Chris look at it, and he couldn't make it work either. I did, however, check out some of the library feeds and signed up for MERLIN. By the way, the lighthouse picture is Cape Neddick, Maine.

My cd cover and RSS

Today I printed my CD cover for my Maine trip (the Portland Headlight, prettiest lighthouse) and I learned how to, and set up an RSS account with feeds to CNN, travel, and knitting. Whoopee, I might get blogged down with knitting projects.

Flickr

I'm interested in trying Flickr to create DVD/CD covers. My cd of pictures from New England 2005 is sitting in an envelope, it would look much better in a case.

Maine trip in the fall

Hi, my husband and I are flying to Maine in the fall and driving up the coast. It's our 25th anniversary...well, actually our anniversary was in February, but hey, who wants to go that far north in the winter? Anyway, we're going in the fall for a week to look at the sea and the leaves. We've been to Maine and New England before and absolutely loved it. I'd like to think about retiring there. If you know anything about that, please let me know. Colette
